Montana Wilderness Assn WILD FEST 2016
Montana Wilderness Assn WILD FEST 2016 in Great Falls Sept. 9 and 10
Bring your hiking boots, spirit of adventure and love for entertainment and head to Giant Springs State Park on September 9 and 10 for Wild Fest 2016. Every eight years the Island Range Chapter hosts the Montana Wilderness Association’s annual event, and this year it will be chock full of free activities and entertainment. There are many hikes planned for each day, longer ones to the Rocky Mountain Front on Friday, and hikes in the Great Falls area including the Little Belts on Saturday. Giant Springs will be teeming with activity as we set up games for kids, booths for organizations, sponsors and agencies; foods and beverages for sale, and alternate activities at the Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center, CM Russell Museum and the Children’s Museum of Montana.
Rob Quist and daughter Halladay will entertain us Friday night as well as having the famous huckleberry pie auction. On Saturday evening we’ll host Laney Lou and the Bird Dogs band and have silent auction tables, welcomes, and hopefully an inspirational talk by the Secretary of Interior, Sally Jewell.
Gerry Jennings, event chair, says, “You can imagine that all this activity requires a cadre of volunteers. We’ll have specific tasks and the time will be around two hours for each volunteer stint. If you can give some time to help make this a grand success, please call Frank Carpenter at 564-2999 or Bonnie Warren at 899-6246. An electronic schedule will be set up and you will be invited to peruse this and fill in your time and desired volunteer task.”
We have many sponsors, all of whom are listed in the flyer that you have received outlining the events of Wild Fest. Please be sure to thank these businesses and organizations. Special thanks go to DA Davidson and Co. for their great generosity.
So, get set for a fun filled, free event celebrating the work that Montana Wilderness Association does to protect Montana’s treasured landscapes.
